because Georgia attacked South Ossetia, killed some civilians, and Russian peace keepers, so Russia pushed them back, and then invaded Georgia, turning Russia from "defender" to "aggressor"
Georgia shouldn't have attacked South Ossetia, and Russia shouldn't have invaded Georgia.

But you know what I personally find funny?
George W. Bush, told Russia to stop, like we could do something to stop them.

Remember: we have troops in two places, and even now, they are spread too thin.
so, we can't help Georgia and Russia pretty much could retake all the countries that were part of the good ol' USSR really fast.
